BYD is showcasing the incredible ‘Emergency Float Mode’ of its YangWang U8, allowing it to drive, guide, and perform U-turns in water.
The Emergency Float Mode, activated during emergency situations, kicks off a list of life-saving functions.
While the Emergency Float Mode is engaged, the all-electric SUV can drive, guide, and perform U-turns in water, showcasing its incredible capabilities.
In addition to this, the rugged U8 has the ability to drive sideways, while a U-turn mode allows the vehicle to execute a 360-degree tank turn.
BYD’s luxury sub-brand, YangWang, has once again taken the spotlight with its remarkable Emergency Float Mode of its $150,000 YangWang U8 flagship SUV, showcased in a new video posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle.
In the video shared by BYD, a camouflaged YangWang U8 SUV can be seen gracefully floating on water, using its wheels as props to demonstrate its passive safety failsafe in deep waters.

According to BYD, when the Emergency Float Mode is activated during an emergency situation, it initiates a set of life-saving functions, including the closing of windows and the opening the sunroof for ventilation.
While the Emergency Float Mode is triggered, the all-electric SUV is designed to efficiently drive, guide and perform U-turns in water, ensuring quick and safe passage to higher ground for its passengers.
