World Anti-Doping Agency Reveals the Banned Substances and Methods for 2024

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) ‍has‍ officially released the 2024 List of Prohibited Substances and Methods, which will enter into force on⁢ 1 January⁣ 2024.

The list, which was authorized by the⁢ firm’s Executive Committee in September, designates which⁣ specific sports are prohibited what compounds and approaches,‌ both during and beyond ⁢competition periods.

In addition to the list, WADA also released a Summary of Major Modifications and Explanatory Notes file, detailing‌ the ​changes made since the publication of the 2023 edition.

Among the significant additions to⁢ the 2024 list is an update on ⁣the use of Tramadol, an opioid pain medication which was displayed in a research study by Mauger et ​al (2023) ⁤ to be ⁢a ‌performance-enhancing drug ⁣in highly trained bicyclists.

Other compounds on the list ‍that have long been restricted include peptide hormones, such as erthythropoietin (EPO).
