Verizon has announced a $100,000 award to the Minnesota Know-how Association (MnTech) for its youth and young adult community development program in Minneapolis. MnTech will provide underserved communities in Minneapolis with a clear pathway to well-paying technology careers.

The partnership is part of the Verizon Ahead Community Enhancement Award, a $1 million nationwide initiative equipping communities with the tools to navigate an increasingly technological world. Through culturally competent teaching and apprenticeships, the program will increase access to technology fields for high school students and other young adults.

CompTIAs Cyberstates report predicts that Minnesota will need roughly 90,000 new technologists in the next 10 years to meet industry demand. By fostering inclusion in the tech community, MnTech has promoted Minnesota’s innovation economy for over 30 years.

The Neighborhood Enhancement Award reflects Verizon’s commitment to advancing digital literacy and inclusion in the communities it serves. This effort is part of Citizen Verizon, Verizon’s responsible business belief for economic, environmental, and social advancement. Congratulations are in order for Minnesota Know-How Association as they take a tangible step towards building a digitally knowledgeable community. This will open doors of opportunity for countless young people in Minneapolis.
