Get ready, because the Apple Vision Pro’s launch date is right around the corner, and there are already rumors swirling about the second mixed-reality headset from Apple.
According to market research firm Omdia, the Korean tech outlet The Elec reported that Apple is gearing up to upgrade the display for the Apple Vision Pro 2.
The nitty-gritty tech details may be a bit complex, but the bottom line is that Apple is reportedly planning to enhance the Vision Pro’s WOLED (with a color filter) display to an RGD OLEDoS display in Vision Pro 2.
Wondering how the rumored Apple Vision Pro 2’s display improves upon its predecessor?
According to MacRumors, the Vision Pro 2’s display tech would eliminate the need for a color filter, resulting in significantly improved brightness and efficiency compared to the headset set to launch in early 2024.
It’s not entirely surprising that a sequel to Vision Pro would feature better display tech than the original, but the specifics of how it will be better are quite unexpected considering the first headset hasn’t even been released yet.
Omdia predicts that the Vision Pro 2 will hit the market in 2027, in line with a previous prediction from Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. In the meantime, Apple may unveil a more affordable alternative to the Vision Pro (priced at $3,500), but it’s uncertain when, or even if, that will happen. If it does, it will likely not include the upgraded display features discussed in the Omdia report, but you never know.
We’ll have to wait three years to see if any of this pans out.
