IPG’s media firm UM called Erin Quintana, as its new U.S. CEO, replacing Joe DiMiero, who held the position since January 2022.

Quintana will provide a fresh start for the digital media and advertising company after DiMiero’s turbulent tenure marked by customer losses and executive departures. The news follows at least three rounds of layoffs in 2023 at UM’s U.S. division and loss of clients, including Nationwide and Zillow. DiMiero was also criticized for his management style and lack of presence. He ultimately clashed with Eileen Kiernan, worldwide CEO of Mediabrands, leading to his leave of absence and eventual departure from the role of U.S. CEO.

Conversely, Quintana, who previously managed all account management at UM, impressed her colleagues. Prior to her promotion as U.S. CEO, she successfully led the agency’s Global General Mills account and managed key accounts including Johnson & Johnson and American Express.

As part of her statement, Quintana expressed her enthusiasm to lead UM U.S., with a focus on growth in 2024, reinforcing the company’s momentum and capabilities to support clients and the wider industry.
