A devastating two-car crash on the Cross Island Parkway in Queens on New Year’s Day claimed the lives of five individuals. The Mazda involved in the accident flipped over, resulting in a tragic loss of lives, cops said.
A Mazda sedan was speeding north on the expressway when it collided with a curb, subsequently overturning around 6 a.m, according to police sources.
A man driving a Honda in the same direction then crashed into the Mazda near Exit 36S, resulting in a fatal accident, cops and sources reported.
The collision caused the Mazda to overturn, and four adults inside were thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead by authorities and sources.
Afterward, a fifth occupant was discovered and also declared dead, police said.
The Honda driver was hospitalized in stable condition, police said.
The Honda driver was taken to New York-Presbyterian Queens Hospital in stable condition, cops said.
