In 2023, the environment crisis became an increasingly urgent reality with a growing impact on our lives and world, with business emissions escalating as part of a global effort to decarbonize the economy. Notably, IT sustainability and green tech options remained in the spotlight as endpoint devices were identified as the major carbon offenders in business, making the implementation of a sustainable tech strategy a regulatory requirement and a strategic imperative.
However, despite the recognized importance of technology in sustainability, a mere 7% of executives have integrated it into their ESG strategies, painting a concerning picture for the future. In fact, Gartner experts have warned that IT-related GHG emissions will increase by 30% each year, indicating a lack of progress in making sustainable IT a reality.
On a positive note, significant progress has been observed as organizations are beginning to apply practical solutions to help transition to the circular economy as part of their business operations. This was exemplified by the World Circular Economy Forum, where leaders explored ways to turn the circular economy into a practical and financial advantage for businesses, catalyzing a shift from a linear to a circular economy.
Notably, the circular economy has emerged as a key topic for influential organizations, reflecting a meaningful shift in the global conversation. The dialogue has evolved, with a greater focus on practical application and finding solutions that work for businesses at all stages of their circularity journey.
