The Rising Star: An Italian Embodying his Legendary MotoGP Team Owner

Marco Bezzecchi showed up to his final debrief of the 2023 MotoGP season with a beer in hand, and didn’t hold back as he slammed Marc Marquez for being “the dirtiest” rider on the field after getting caught up in a lap one collision.

Bezzecchi has a cool, laid-back persona, strolling the MotoGP paddock with the confidence of someone who truly belongs. It’s no wonder, as he is a product of the VR46 team and the VR46 Academy, both owned by MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi. Rossi, a nine-time grand prix world champion known for his on-track prowess and off-track charisma, has instilled a balance of fun and dedication in Bezzecchi that is clearly visible in his approach to racing.

Uccio Salucci, the VR46 team director, emphasized the need to maintain a balance between fun and good results, highlighting the family-like atmosphere within the team while also stressing the importance of remaining focused.

Bezzecchi’s journey in grand prix racing has been a remarkable one. After achieving a podium finish in his first year in Moto3, he quickly rose to title contention in the following year. Despite challenges in his Moto2 season, Bezzecchi’s move to VR46 proved fruitful, with two wins under his belt. This success paved the way for his promotion to MotoGP with VR46 Ducati, where he has continued to impress as a standout rookie.

The 25-year-old’s rise in the MotoGP ranks has been nothing short of impressive, with three grand prix wins in the 2023 season and a third-place finish in the overall standings. Bezzecchi’s confidence and performance have exceeded expectations, as he finds himself in the thick of the championship battle.

Reflecting on his journey, Bezzecchi acknowledges the unexpected success of his second season in MotoGP and attributes it to his comfort and confidence with the Ducati. His consistent strong performances have solidified his position as a strong contender in the championship.
