Julia Roberts opens up about her career decisions and reveals how fate played a role in shaping her iconic roles. During a recent interview on See What Happens Live, Roberts discussed how she turned down certain roles that were later taken by other actresses, including Meg Ryan.
One of the roles Roberts mentioned was the lead in Nora Ephron’s classic rom-com You’ve Got Mail, which was initially offered to Meg Ryan. Roberts also recalled how she landed the part in Steel Magnolias after Ryan was filming When Harry Met Sally.
Roberts also revealed that she stepped in for Cate Blanchett in Closer when Blanchett became pregnant. She admitted, “I’ve lucked into some excellent things.”
During the interview, Roberts also played a game of “Plead the Fifth” with Andy Cohen and disclosed that the hardest drug she’s ever tried was mushrooms. She joked, “It was good. Not gonna lie. Kids, don’t try this at home!”
