The wait is finally over for the highly anticipated Tesla Cybertruck as it begins shipping to eager customers. Amidst the start of production, Tesla CEO, Elon Musk, has put an end to speculation regarding a ~270-mile electric pickup. The Cybertruck order page also confirms the existence of a Range Extender, adding an additional 120 miles (193 km) of range. The available AWD trims will be followed by an RWD option in 2025.
Leading up to the Cybertruck’s delivery day, a flurry of rumors and speculations have emerged, but at the delivery event, streamed on social media platform X (fka Twitter), Tesla dispelled a US$ 60,000 Cybertruck rumor with unimpressive range. Elon Musk also showcased the Cybertruck’s tough stainless steel body and impressive bulletproofing capabilities in a bulletproof window demonstration that left the audience in awe.
Elon Musk also revealed 48 V low-voltage wiring which improves the efficiency of infotainment and accessory systems. The long-awaited Cybertruck is finally available in two different versions to the general public, with enticing features like 600 hp and an 11,000-lbs pulling capability for the standard AWD trim.
While the performance and range of the Tesla Cybertruck are nearly competitive, some may note the disparity between earlier range promises and the delivery vehicle. Nonetheless, the Cybertruck showed its mettle on the drag strip, outperforming a Porsche 911 with impressive speed and performance metrics.
