1. Polar Bear

One of the most iconic cold-weather animals is the polar bear. They are the largest bears in the world and are seen as symbols of strength and resilience in the wild. Polar bears have black skin and transparent fur. Their tongues are also blue. Their fur coats are oily to help repel excess water and keep them warm in the cold.

Where Do Polar Bears Live?

These white bears rule the Arctic Circle. They can be found in various countries surrounding the Arctic Ocean, including Norway (especially the Svalbard archipelago), Russia, the United States (Alaska), Canada, and Greenland. Unfortunately, due to climate change, the amount of ice is decreasing, and as a result, the polar bear population is dwindling. The global polar bear population is estimated to be around 20,000. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has classified them as vulnerable.

2. Snow Leopard

Snow leopards’ gray-white spotted fur helps them blend seamlessly into the landscape. They blend in so well that they have been referred to as “ghosts of the mountain” They also possess strong hind legs that can propel them six times their body length and a long tail for balance and warmth.
