Exciting news: Apple will soon introduce a new Stolen Device Protection mode for iPhones to keep users safe from thieves and attackers!
This new feature, set to be launched in iOS 17.3, adds an extra layer of security, requiring FaceID facial recognition in addition to a passcode for sensitive actions like viewing passwords or wiping the phone. This means thieves won’t be able to access your data with just a stolen passcode.
The Stolen Device Protection mode also includes a one-hour delayed response if an attacker tries to change the user’s Apple ID password or remove FaceID, making it even harder for thieves to access your private information.
This update comes after reports of a scam in which thieves befriend or spy on victims to steal their passcodes and disable theft protections on stolen iPhones. But with Apple’s new security mode, users can have peace of mind knowing their data is safe, even if their phone is stolen.
