Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott made some insensitive team comparisons and apologized for his remarks. He issued a public apology to his team for his reference to the 9/11 hijackers and explained his mistake in a meeting with reporters:

“I immediately asked forgiveness to the team. Not only was 9/11 a terrible event in our nation’s history, but it was also a day that I lost a great family friend,”

McDermott came under fire after NFL analyst Tyler Dunne wrote a series pointing out some of McDermott’s challenges as Buffalo’s head coach. One particular anecdote recounted a very uncomfortable team meeting where McDermott made inappropriate comparisons to the 9/11 terrorists.

One player described the suggestion as “awful” and “lacking” in social skills. As a result, McDermott’s job security may be in jeopardy as the team is currently 6-6 and struggling to maintain a playoff position.

If the Bills don’t perform better in the final stretch of the season, a new head coach for 2024 may be on the horizon. You can read more about the story here.
