“OK! This is the All-Starr Band!” exclaimed Ringo Starr last month in New Buffalo, Michigan, kicking off the night as host before taking his place behind the drum set. “Each of you will recognize at least two songs!” cracked a joke, setting the stage for an unforgettable performance.

Currently touring in support of his latest EP Rewind Forward, Starr has consistently curated the All-Starr Band lineup since 1989, highlighting his iconic bandmates in a show that not only reminisces the Beatles era but also celebrates rock history.

Accompanied by guitarists Steve Lukather (Toto) and Colin Hay (Men At Work), bassist Hamist Stuart (Average White Band), keyboardist Edgar Winter, drummer Gregg Bissonette and saxophonist Warren Ham, the seven-piece group put their own spin on songs from the discographies of each band member.

Following a rousing performance of Carl Perkins’ “Matchbox,” Starr and his band kicked things up with one of Ringo’s biggest solo hits, “It Don’t Come Easy.” Bissonette took over the drum set as Starr belted out the lead vocal on the George Harrison-produced track, a #4 hit for Starr in America when it was released in 1971.

The All-Starr band then took the audience on a trip back to 1965’s Rubber Soul during a performance of “What Goes On.” Lukather leaned into Starr for the closing solo, as Ringo revealed, “The only song written by Lennon, McCartney, Starr” for the first Beatles cut of the night.

“Every person on stage is a star in their own right,” Ringo emphasized, introducing the crowd to the All-Starr concept. “We’re going to move around the stage and we’ll start with ‘Mr. Talkative’ Edgar Winter!” he began, as the band launched into the Edgar Winter Group’s “Free Ride.”

“It’s an honor and a privilege to be standing on this stage among the monstrously talented musicians in the All-Starr Band!” Winter expressed. “Ladies and gentlemen, the greatest drummer in the greatest band that’s ever been!” he continued, introducing Starr as the drummer got behind the kit for his first track pounding the skins.
