After the unfortunate loss of linebacker Jaelan Phillips for the season, the Miami Dolphins are making moves by signing veteran pass rusher Jason Pierre-Paul off the New Orleans Saints practice team, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport
34-year-old Pierre-Paul, who last played with the Baltimore Ravens, is set to bring his expertise to the Dolphins’ defense.
Pierre-Paul also took to Twitter to thank the Saints for the opportunity and express his excitement about joining the Dolphins.
The 14-year veteran is a two-time Super Bowl champion with the New York Giants and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The loss of Phillips, who was having a standout season, has opened the door for Pierre-Paul to make an impact with the Dolphins. Phillips was a key part of the team’s pass rush, and his injury is a big blow to the defense. Pierre-Paul will now have the opportunity to step in and provide some much-needed production.
Pierre-Paul had his best season in his sophomore year with the Giants, recording 16.5 sacks and earning first-team All-Pro honors as the team went on to win the Super Bowl.
