Rep. George Santos, R-N.Y., is in the spotlight with a controversy of his own involving Rep. Jamaal Bowman, D-N.Y. days before he faces an expulsion vote.
Santos announced plans to introduce a resolution for Bowman’s expulsion during a news conference on Thursday. He expressed his frustration with the call for his own removal, calling the process “bullying” and “theater” for the public eye. He also criticized the handling of his case compared to Bowman’s.
Despite this, the House Speaker has expressed reservations about Santos’ expulsion, noting the concerns about setting a precedent given that Santos is still awaiting his trial.
The controversy comes after Santos was charged with multiple federal fraud charges, while an investigation found that he misused the campaign funds for personal expenses.
The upcoming vote is set to trigger the second House member expulsion in over two decades, making it a significant development in U.S. politics.
