Pete Carroll Urges Elimination of NFL Season-High 257 Yards in Penalties

The Cowboys and Seahawks just played one of the most thrilling games of the NFL season, with Dallas coming out on top with a 41-35 victory. However, it was also one of the most heavily penalized games of the season, with the constant flow of yellow flags interrupting the action.

Referee Clete Blackman and his crew were busy, calling a total of 25 penalties, 19 of which were accepted. This tied for the third-most flags in a game, and the 257 yards in penalties between the two teams was the highest in any NFL game this season.

Back in October, the 49ers and Browns set the previous record with 25 accepted penalties for 224 yards.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll expressed his frustration with the penalty-heavy game, especially the 10 accepted penalties for 130 yards against his team.

“It’s unfortunate. It feels like there’s a whole other factor in this game,” Carroll said. “I don’t know. You guys saw it much better than I did, but there were just way too many penalties in this game from both sides, and we’ve got to move away from that kind of football.”

The Cowboys ended up with 9 penalties for 127 yards.

“They were against both of us, and that lot was throwing them,” Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said. “That secondary was full of them. It’s frustrating, but they were calling them.”
