Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs’ Quest for Offensive Solutions Amid Growing Losses and Criticism

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Chiefs offense is facing some serious struggles, and everyone seems to have a different take on it.

On Monday night, Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner took to his social media account to give his take on the team’s recent upset loss to the Las Vegas Raiders. According to Warner, the Chiefs had one of their worst performances in the Patrick Mahomes era, which began six years ago. He said that the offense was bad everywhere.

The criticism didn’t stop there. Former NFL quality control assistant Nate Tice had some harsh words for Mahomes’ teammates, calling the offense “sloppy” and questioning their collective football IQ.

Despite the criticism, analyst Sheil Kapadia of The Ringer defended Mahomes, blaming the team’s suboptimal circumstances for their struggles.

On Wednesday morning, former receiver and Chiefs Ring of Honor member Dante Hall had some advice for Mahomes, urging him to change his play style to help improve the offense’s effectiveness.

Even former receiver Dante Hall, the Chiefs’ newest Ring of Honor member, pleaded with Mahomes on Wednesday morning to change his play style — from less mesmerizing backyard-like gunslinger to more captain checkdown — to help improve the offense’s effectiveness.

“I love you; you’re my favorite quarterback,” Hall said on “Good Morning Football.” “But I think you need to fall in love with the mundane. Yes … we’ve been used to the big play to (receiver) Tyreek (Hill), to Kelce. It’s time to be checkdown Tom Brady. Fall in love with the swing route, the checkdowns. These plays have been there for the taking.
