New York Knicks snag center Dmytro Skapintsev with two-way deal

Exciting news for Knicks fans! After losing Mitchell Robinson to a potential season-ending injury, the team has made a move to strengthen their center position. They’ve signed Dmytro Skapintsev to a two-way contract, according to SNY’s Ian Begley.

Prior to joining the Knicks, Skapintsev was with the Westchester Knicks in the G-League, where he’s been putting up some impressive numbers. In 13 games this season, the 25-year-old has averaged 5.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in 18.6 minutes per game.

This move comes after the Knicks found themselves short-handed at center due to injuries to Robinson and Jericho Sims. Now, Skapintsev joins Isaiah Hartenstein and Taj Gibson on the team’s depth chart, providing some much-needed support in the frontcourt.

In order to make room for Skapintsev, the Knicks have decided to waive Jaylen Martin. However, it’s uncertain whether the team has any further plans to bolster their center depth. They have applied for a Disabled Player Exception (DPE) following Robinson’s injury, which could keep him out for the rest of the season. If granted, the Knicks would have additional flexibility to make further moves to strengthen the team.

Stay tuned to see how this signing impacts the Knicks as the season progresses!
