Thinking of embedding an X post? You may come across an addition to your process:
Now, X has made it possible for you to choose whether you want to embed the video element in isolation, or the entire post, as usual.
And opting to embed just the video (or GIF) will give it this look:
This could be a useful way to showcase X-originated video on other websites and provide context to, for instance, your blog post, without the messiness of the full X framing.
But at the same time, it may decrease brand exposure for X, which is likely why Twitter didn’t offer this option before, even though it once offered an “embedded video widget” that essentially served the same purpose.
Twitter appeared to gradually phase this out as the platform evolved, and there’s no specific reason provided as to why it was removed as an option. In any case, it’s back now, giving you more options for using X-originated content and placing more emphasis on video elements.
I can’t help but wonder why they didn’t take the chance to remove the ‘Tweet’ reference. Since the re-brand to X, the platform seems to have made little effort to eliminate all the tweet and bird terminology, but then again, with 80% fewer staff, that’s probably understandable as well.
