Michigan Boy’s Wild Joyride: Stealing Forklift and Leading Police on Chase

A 12-year-old Michigan kid has a wild ride in a stolen forklift, managing to evade authorities and deputies before eventually getting arrested Saturday night, according to the Ann Arbor Police Department.

Around 6:45 p.m. Saturday, Ann Arbor Police received reports of a juvenile attempting to take a construction vehicle from Forsythe Middle School.

Officers spotted the vehicle driving without lights just a few minutes after receiving the call.

A low-speed pursuit ensued with officers chasing the kid at approximately 15 to 20 miles per hour.

The pursuit saw the 12-year-old child drive through the Georgetown Boulevard community and hit around 10 parked cars.

At approximately 7:18 p.m., Washtenaw County deputies took over the chase after Ann Arbor police ended it when the driver crossed the M-14 bridge. Almost 30 minutes later, the young boy was apprehended near Gotfredson.

The stolen vehicle, a Genie GTH-636 Telehandler, was left unlocked at the middle school with the key hidden inside, authorities said.
