Grammy award-winning artist, Mariah Carey, continues to make waves as she breaks the Spotify single-day streams record with her holiday hit “All I Want for Christmas Is You.” But there’s even more to the story when you dive into the data behind this iconic 1994 track.
Yesterday, we shared the latest Spotify consumption record for “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” with nearly 24 million streams on Christmas Day, according to Chartmetric data.
While this is an impressive feat, it’s just the tip of the iceberg. In addition, the song has amassed a staggering 641.82 million Spotify streams over the past two years and is featured in approximately 100,000 playlists – all of which speaks to its enduring popularity.
“All I Want for Christmas Is You” YouTube Views Approach 200 Million
Looking at YouTube, the official audio-only upload of “All I Want for Christmas Is You” has accumulated 29.8 million views in the past month, nearly reaching 200 million overall views, according to Chartmetric data.
The numbers have seen remarkable growth from approximately 10.13 million YouTube views in January of 2019, to 40.72 million in January of 2020, 71.84 million in January of 2021, 102.79 million in January of 2022, and 156.51 million in January of 2023.
The accelerating growth suggests that this view count is on a rapid upward trajectory and shows no signs of slowing down.
In addition to this, the track’s music video has garnered a whopping 781 million YouTube views, while the “Make My Wish Come True Edition” adds another 545 million views.
“All I Want for Christmas Is You” Shazams Top 520,000 – During the 2023 Holiday Season Alone
Data from Chartmetric also reveals that, during the 2023 holiday season (from November 27th to December 27th), “All I Want for Christmas Is You” amassed a staggering 521,400 Shazams.
Notably, more than 70,000 of these Shazams came in on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Since then, Apple-owned Shazam has been used to identify “All I Want for Christmas Is You” a total of 6.4 million times.
“All I Want for Christmas Is You” Pandora Plays Crack 300 Million
Lastly, Mariah Carey’s famous holiday hit has exceeded 302.86 million streams on Pandora, with a recent increase of 16.2 million in the past month, per Chartmetric data. Since January of 2021, the overall total has risen from 237.64 million. It’s worth noting that Pandora had approximately 46.5 million monthly active users (MAUs) during the third quarter of 2023.
