Do you recall Band of Brothers, the war epic that was HBO’s limited series? Michael Fassbender has been making big moves since then. Not only is he part of major films from studios and independent directors, but he has also had the opportunity to work with outstanding directors like Quentin Tarantino, Steven Soderbergh, Ridley Scott, Terrence Malick, and even got to participate in three films with Steve McQueen. And there is still more to come! This fall, we will see him in David Fincher’s The Killer and Taika Waititi’s Next Goal Wins.
Looking at his vast and impressive career, it’s amazing to think that there is one character Michael Fassbender would like to meet. He would love to share a meal with Erik Lehnsherr/Magneto, the challenging anti-hero/villain that he portrayed in four X-Men films between 2011 and 2019. If given the chance, he mentioned, “I would say Magneto and have a few questions,” in Men’s Health‘s new “Eat Like” video.
His character, Magneto, is unique and known for his dynamic connection with Professor X in the X-Men series. Magneto tends to be more aggressive and violent during the fight for Mutant rights, which positions him as more antagonistic while Professor X aims to avoid conflict. It’s a complex relationship that is at the core of the X-Men story in general.
But difficulties were not limited to the X-Men movies. For example, consider the experience Fassbender went through during the production of the 2008’s Hunger, his first movie with Steve McQueen. In this movie, he portrayed Bobby Sands, a real-life Irish politician, who went on a hunger strike while in prison.
He had to deal with an extreme body transformation, as he explained, “When I did Hunger, the target was to get down to 58 kilos [127 pounds], which I did—that was over a 10 week period.”
His approaches to losing weight were quite extreme, with a daily caloric intake limited to 1,000 calories, then progressing to only 600 calories per day. He admitted, “I wouldn’t do what I did for Hunger again. I wouldn’t do that to my body again.”
It’s crucial to remember, Men’s Health and Michael Fassbender do not support or endorse extreme diets such as the one he followed for the movie.
