A Greenwich, Connecticut, woman is taking legal action after claiming she discovered a severed finger in her salad at popular chain Chop’t Creative Salad Company.
The lawsuit, filed in Westchester County Supreme Court in New York, alleges that she found a portion of a human finger in her salad while eating at the Mount Kisco, New York location of the chain on April 7, 2023.
According to the lawsuit, a manager slicing arugula chopped off a part of her left pointer finger while on the job, and the contaminated arugula was not disposed of properly, resulting in it being served to customers.
The woman, who has chosen to remain anonymous, claims she suffered injuries as a result, including panic attacks and shock, and is seeking compensation, although the amount has not been specified.
The incident reflects previous controversies at Chop’t, which gained attention in 2014 for an incident where a customer allegedly found a dead rat in a wrap. The company publicly addressed the issue and attributed it to a disgruntled employee.
Records from the Westchester County Health Department Board of Health in September 2023 show the restaurant was fined $900 for not meeting standards and posing a health hazard to customers.
The salad chain has not yet responded to Entrepreneur‘s request for comment on the matter.
