Kyle Smith is a rising star from New Zealand and gave a remarkable finish at the last race of the 2023 IRONMAN calendar, holding back Jack Moody and Kurt McDonald to secure his slot for the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship next year in Taupo.
It was a thrilling race in the women’s category as Hannah Berry outshined Lotte Wilms, concluding her strong races Down Under with an impressive podium finish ahead of Rebecca Clarke in 3rd place.
Pro Men– Smith maintains lead against Moody and McDonald
In the men’s category, the race commenced with Spaniard Javier Gomez leading out of the water, closely followed by Smith. The two were half a minute ahead of McDonald and Josiah Ney as they transitioned for the bike leg.
As the race progressed, Smith and Gomez were joined by McDonald, and the trio raced ahead, leaving behind other competitors such as Moody and Currie.
Gomez’s race ended during the bike leg, leaving Smith to push his limits in his absence and ultimately holding off McDonald as he entered T2.
Although McDonald initially made ground on Smith during the run, Smith pulled away with a decisive move, securing his victory as Moody passed McDonald.

Despite a valiant effort from Moody, Smith emerged victorious, capturing his second win of the year, with Moody in 2nd place and McDonald holding off Currie to secure 3rd.
Pro Women– Berry’s solid performance puts her on top!
The women’s race witnessed a spirited performance from Hannah Berry, who led the pack ahead of Wilms and Clarke. Berry’s impressive run led her to victory, with Clarke close behind.
Likewise, the determination from Knighton to make the best of her race was visible, as she battled to preserve her position in the top tier.
With Fuller trailing behind, the podium contenders emerged as the race concluded, setting the stage for an exciting showdown.
