Yet another major name quarterback has entered the transfer market.
Tyler Van Dyke, a three-year starter at Miami, made the move to the portal official on Monday, according to multiple reports. Van Dyke’s time at Miami was marked by a series of coaching changes and ups and downs. He burst onto the scene, being named ACC Rookie of the Year in 2021 after taking over as the starter for an injured D’Eriq King.
However, after changes in the coaching staff and offensive scheme, Van Dyke struggled in 2022. The introduction of Mario Cristobal as head coach and OC Josh Gattis provided a moment of rejuvenation, but the success was short-lived.
Though he began the 2023 season strong, Van Dyke faced challenges as the year went on, dealing with injuries and a temporary benching. In his three seasons at Miami, Van Dyke racked up 7,469 passing yards, 54 touchdowns, and 23 interceptions.
With Van Dyke committing to transfer and another quarterback, Emory Williams, injured, Miami is left with only one healthy scholarship quarterback for its upcoming championship game—redshirt freshman Jacurri Brown.
Van Dyke is one of four Miami players who entered the portal on Monday, joining DE Jahfari Harvey, RB Don Chaney, and LB Corey Flagg.
Will Howard leaving Kansas State
Will Howard, a multi-year starting quarterback at Kansas State, entered the transfer portal as a graduate transfer after a successful career in Manhattan. Howard’s journey included stepping in for the injured Skylar Thompson and eventually solidifying himself as the full-time starter for the Wildcats.
However, Howard’s role shifted this season as he shared reps with freshman Avery Johnson. Looking ahead, Johnson is viewed as the quarterback of the future for Kansas State.
With one season of eligibility remaining, Howard is expected to draw considerable interest in the transfer market. He leaves Kansas State with 5,786 passing yards, 48 touchdowns, and 25 interceptions, completing 58.8% of his passes. In addition, the 6-foot-4, 235-pound Howard has proven to be a formidable runner with 921 yards and 9 TDs on the ground.
Former five-star USC WR Raleek Brown enters the portal
Former highly-touted recruit Raleek Brown is set to leave the USC program after limited early success, according to Rivals’ USC site. Brown, a highly regarded all-purpose back coming out of high school, was rated as a top prospect in the 2022 class.
