The Philadelphia Eagles are so close to claiming a second-straight NFC East title, and they have the Christmas Day game to help get them there. Thanks to the Dallas Cowboys losing to the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, all the Eagles need to do now is win over the New York Giants.
And in that game, their quarterback made history.
Jalen Hurts managed to score from one yard out on a Christmas edition of the “Brotherly Shove,” and it marked the QB’s 15th rushing touchdown of the season:
That broke the previous record for rushing touchdowns in a single season by a quarterback, set back in 2011 by Cam Newton during his rookie season. The all-time record for quarterbacks before that was 12, set by Steve Grogan of the New England Patriots in 1976.
But Hurts may need to keep scoring to keep his record. Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen has 13 rushing touchdowns of his own this season, and he still has games against the New England Patriots and the Miami Dolphins left to play.
Allen has managed a rushing touchdown in each game against those teams this season.
For now, though, Hurts holds the record, and with Philadelphia’s track record, it’s likely he’ll add a few more rushing TDs this year to extend his new record.
