Get ready Whovians! “Doctor Who” is taking off at full speed into a brand-new era of the franchise.
Today is a momentous occasion as we celebrate ‘Doctor Who Day’ to honor the 60th anniversary of this beloved series. And the celebrations couldn’t have come at a better time, with the first of the anniversary specials just around the corner.
In an exciting revelation, showrunner Russell T Davies has given us a glimpse into the future. Despite still waiting for Ncuti Gatwa’s debut as the Fifteenth Doctor, scheduled for Spring 2024, Davies has already announced that plans are underway for the second season, with scripts being written for an episode set to air in May 2025. Talk about keeping us on the edge of our seats!
Speaking with RadioTimes.com, Davies enthusiastically shares, “If I sound a bit busy, it’s because I just delivered a Doctor Who script that will be on air in May 2025.”
The production of Gatwa’s second full season began last month, indicating that the episode Davies refers to will likely be part of that season. This hints at a thrilling Spring 2025 release for the highly anticipated second season of Gatwa’s Doctor.
But before we get ahead of ourselves, let’s not forget that this year’s Christmas special, titled “The Church at Ruby Road,” will give us our first complete experience of Gatwa as the Doctor. Alongside him will be the delightful Millie Gibson as his companion, Ruby Sunday. Both of them have been making appearances throughout the exciting ‘Doctor Who’ anniversary events today.
