Fatalities Reported in Russian Attack on Kherson Rail Station in Ukraine

Tragic Russian shelling at a Ukrainian train station results in a fatality and injuries

Terrible news as Ukrainian authorities confirm that a Russian attack on a rail station in Kherson has resulted in the death of at least one person and injuries to four others. The ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine is taking a severe toll on civilians.

Interior Minister Ihor Klymenk reported that the shelling took place on Tuesday, causing the death of a police officer. He also mentioned that the police managed to safely evacuate about 140 people from the station.

“Sadly, a police officer lost his life due to the shelling. Two more officers are in hospital with shrapnel injuries,” Klymenko stated on Telegram.

Russian forces captured Kherson in February 2022 but were pushed out by Ukraine in a counteroffensive later that year. Despite this, Russian forces have continued to attack the city.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also confirmed the shelling, mentioning that two civilians are being treated for shrapnel wounds along with the police officers.

Ukrzaliznytsya, the Ukrainian railway company, reported damage to a train and the station but assured the situation is under control and that railway operations are ready to continue.

Roman Mrochko, head of the Kherson military administration, stated that the city had been targeted for the past day by persistent Russian attacks.

As the war in Ukraine rages on, civilians continue to suffer the consequences, and there is little hope for a quick resolution to the conflict.

An uplifting report mentions Ukrainian fighters striking a Russian ship in the Black Sea on Tuesday, boosting the morale of Ukrainian forces. This news comes after a failed counteroffensive over the summer, with UK Defence Secretary Grant Shapps highlighting that there is no stalemate in the war in Ukraine.
