Exploring the Mystery of Black Holes: Roy Kerr’s Investigation into Singularities

[Submitted on 1 Dec 2023]

This article challenges the long-held belief that black holes contain singularities when formed by real physical bodies. Sixty years ago, Roger Penrose claimed that trapped surfaces inevitably lead to light rays of finite affine length (FALL’s). Penrose and Stephen Hawking then asserted that these must end in actual singularities. However, it is shown that there are counterexamples through every point in the Kerr metric, which do not end in singularities and are asymptotic to at least one event horizon.
