TOKYO, Nov. 27 (UPI)– Jockey Christophe Lemarie described Equinox’s win as “excellence,” with nothing but agreement as the premier horse easily took home the victory in Sunday’s Group 1 Japan Cup, showcasing a thrilling weekend in worldwide horse racing.

While there were other noteworthy races in Hong Kong and Dubai, it was undeniable that Equinox was the star of the weekend, solidifying his status as the world’s premier horse.

A fantastic cheer rose from fans as Equinox stormed to the lead and claimed victory, winning the Group 1 Japan Cup by a commanding 4 lengths, outpacing filly Liberty Island.

With 7 wins and 2 seconds from 9 starts, Equinox has undoubtedly solidified his reputation as the world’s premier horse, and Sunday’s win further cements his legacy.

Jockey Christophe Lemaire, visibly emotional, expressed, “Today was something special. I hope everyone enjoyed it and will remember this race for a very, long time.”

Equinox’s career earnings now exceed the old Japanese record held by Almond Eye, herself a two-time Japan Cup winner. While it’s uncertain whether Equinox will remain in training for 2024 or be retired to stud, the racing world will surely await his next move with great anticipation.

Despite Equinox’s triumph, his half-sister, Garza Blanca, wasn’t as lucky, narrowly missing victory in her race earlier on the same program at Tokyo.
