Free-agent pitcher Eduardo Rodríguez is reportedly signing with the National League champion Arizona Diamondbacks, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, who has provided more details:
BREAKING: Left-handed starter Eduardo Rodriguez and the Arizona Diamondbacks are in contract on a four-year agreement for around $20 million a year, pending physical, sources knowledgeable about the arrangement inform ESPN.
Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic provided more details:
Overall prospective worth is an even $100M.
According to Rosenthal on Wednesday, the left-hander was down to the Cincinnati Reds and Diamondbacks. MLB Network’s Jon Heyman formerly reported Rodríguez was choosing in between 2 unidentified groups and anticipated to sign with a club by Thursday.
Rodríguez spent the last 2 years of his profession with the Detroit Tigers before pulling out of the last 3 years and $49 million remaining on his contract to become a free agent this offseason.
The Tigers tried to trade Rodríguez at the 2023 season’s due date but he nixed an offer to the Los Angeles Dodgers, invoking his 10-team no-trade stipulation. The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya reported at the time that he wanted to stay closer to his family on the East Coast.
“The limitations, such as they remained in July, aren’t using today, so he is unbiased,” Morosi stated. “There were some ideas and reports that, maybe, the Mets were included, however I think, Lauren, that there are groups that are a lot more interested than the New York Mets in Rodríguez.”

While Rodríguez isn’t on the very same level as Shohei Ohtani or Yoshinobu Yamamoto, he’s still an extremely trusted starter and would make a terrific addition to any competing group.
Among Rodríguez’s finest seasons can be found in 2019 when he belonged to the Boston Red Sox. He published a 19-6 record with a 3.81 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 213 strikeouts in 203.1 innings throughout 34 starts.
While the 30-year-old isn’t quite on that level anymore, he still had an impressive 2023 season with the Tigers, publishing a 13-9 record with a 3.30 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 143 strikeouts in 152.2 innings throughout 26 starts.
With Rodriguez off the board, groups might end up being more desperate to land pitching aid, specifically if they are out on the similarity Ohtani, Yamamoto and Blake Snell.
