Eastern Michigan’s Korey Hernandez caused quite the stir following the Eagles’ 59-10 loss to South Alabama on Saturday. The university took immediate action, condemning the actions of some of the student-athletes, including Hernandez, after the ugly incident that took place following the game. It certainly wasn’t a good look for the team or the university as a whole, and an apology was issued to the community, South Alabama team, and their fans.
The altercation took place after the Jaguars completed their 59-10 rout of the Eagles in the 68 Ventures Bowl. As South Alabama was singing its alma mater, Hernandez ran in from out of the frame and hit Burt from behind, inciting a brawl.
Both sides were eventually separated after the brawl, and after sending them to their locker rooms, South Alabama was eventually brought back out for the trophy ceremony.
Meanwhile, it was emphasized by both coaches that this behavior was unacceptable. This incident certainly held a lot of weight, and both coaches addressed the situation and their expectations for their team members.
