Daddy Yankee is calling it quits with putting gasolina on the Latin rap video game! The Puerto Rican artist reportedly revealed his retirement from reggaeton during a recent show.
He shared that he has given his life to Christ and wants his next chapter to be about spreading God’s word.
During the concert video, Daddy Yankee spoke to a cheering crowd in Puerto Rico. He admitted to feeling a void for a long time and has been trying to fill it. He also realized that he had been someone for everyone, but without God, he was nothing.
“I had the chance to travel the world for many years, winning many awards and applause, but I realized something the Bible says,” Daddy Yankee shared in Spanish. “What is the whole world worth to a man if he loses his soul?”
Yankee said he’s acknowledging– with no shame– that Jesus lives within him.
“… Jesus lives in me, and I will live for Him,” the artist said. “The Bible says everyone that openly accepts God here in the world will also acknowledge him in front of the Lord.”
Daddy Yankee closed his remarks by dedicating everything the Lord has blessed him with, especially his multi-platforms, to spreading God’s word.
“I hope you will walk with me on this new journey,” Daddy told fans. “Never follow any man. I’m just.
The ‘Rompe’ rap artist also quoted the Bible in the caption of his post.
“Family: This day for me, is the most important day in my life. this evening I acknowledge and am not ashamed to tell the whole world that Christ lives in me and that I will live for him. This is the end of one chapter and the beginning of a new one,” Daddy Yankee wrote.
Including the quote:
“For what good is it for a man to gain the whole world, if he loses his life? Or how much can a man pay for his life? For the Son of Man will come in the glory of his Father and with his angels, and then he will reward every one according to what he has done.” St. Matthew 16: 26-27 Amen.”
The ‘Gasolina’ artist shared the concert confession on Dec. 4 on his Instagram feed. Despite restricting who can comment, the post drew in over 47,000 comments from his 48.9 million fans. It includes almost 2 million likes.
It’s unclear if this means he will no longer make music or whether he plans to just change the content.
