Conservatives’ Fierce Reaction to Requiring Solidarity in Beating the COVID Pandemic

Just a few days ago we looked at a post by former Vox writer David Roberts, in which he critizied the mainstream media for covering the Harvard plagiarism scandal. According to Roberts, conservatives are reacting in a curious way to the restrictions brought by the COVID-19 pandemic. Under Fauci’s leadership and the issue of school closings, the right wing experienced great anger, an event that Roberts dubbed “fundamental brain rage”. Their anger may seem focused on particular issues, but at its root is a repudiation of an “undeniable moral imperative for solidarity” as defined by Roberts. According to Twitter posts by Roberts, pandemic restrictions generated a “need to reject the call for solidarity” among the right wing. Roberts states that this “fundamental” problem also comes into play in addressing climate change, suggesting the right wing will be a hindrance to that cause as well. Requiring solidarity to beat the COVID pandemic gave conservatives fundamental brainstem rage. Read more about the controversy here.
