Michael Chandler continues to be a thorn in Colby Covington’s side. After Covington’s recent return to the octagon at UFC 296 ended in defeat, Chandler took the opportunity to publicly mock and belittle him. But Covington isn’t one to back down from a fight, and he had a lot to say in response.
During an interview on the PBD Podcast, the former UFC interim welterweight champion fired back at the UFC lightweight contender. “Michael Chandler, who?” Covington scoffed. “That guy was getting knocked out in Bellator, that guy is a complete scrub. What’s his UFC record? Like 1-4? We’re talking about that? My win percentage in the UFC is like over 90%, it’s just, I’m an all-time great in this division.”
Covington continued to defend his reputation, pointing out the unique accomplishments that set him apart from the competition. “I’ve done things in this division that people aren’t ever going to do. I’m the only fighter to ever go to the White House and hang out with the sitting President. I’m the only one to ever have the first family, front row, I’m the only one to ever have a President out there supporting him. Dapping me up before I walk in the octagon.”
Unsurprisingly, Colby Covington didn’t mince words when it came to Chandler. “He can keep talking all he wants,” Covington concluded, “But, there’s no substance. Just another guy who is all talk, no walk.”
These recent comments from Covington are only the latest in a long line of controversial statements. Following his UFC 296 defeat, he made inflammatory remarks about Leon Edwards’ deceased father, and has since set his sights on facing Stephen Thompson. It’s clear that “Chaos” isn’t backing down from anyone.
