Unfortunately, former New Jersey governor and Republican presidential hopeful Chris Christie did not make the cut for the Maine primary election ballot. Despite his campaign’s best efforts, he fell short of the 2,000 in-state signatures required to secure a spot on the ballot for the March 5, 2024 primary election.
Maine’s Secretary of State confirmed the news, stating that Christie only managed to obtain 844 signatures, well below the threshold needed for inclusion on the ballot. However, a spokesperson for Christie’s campaign expressed that they had collected and submitted over 6,000 signatures and attributed the disqualification to a “procedural problem” with the signature evaluation process. They also mentioned their intention to appeal the decision and have Christie reinstated on the ballot.
In a surprising turn of events, Democratic presidential hopeful Marianne Williamson also failed to secure a spot on the ballot for the March Democratic primary in Maine. It appears that the upcoming primary election in Maine will be missing some recognizable names from both parties.
