Beyoncé’s ‘Renaissance’ Film To Hit a High Note at the Box Office
Beyoncé is all set to dominate the box office this weekend with her new concert movie– however, it’s not quite on par with another big hit this year … can you guess who?
The Queen Bey made a strong start raking in about $11.5 million between Thursday previews and Friday showings for her ‘Renaissance’ flick. Projections indicate it’s poised to make around $20-$24 million domestically through Sunday.
While these are impressive figures, showing a strong performance for concert movies in general, it pales in comparison to Taylor Swift’s ‘Eras’ film which brought in $39 million during the same time frame before finishing its opening weekend with an impressive $92 million in domestic sales alone.
That’s not all, as Taylor Swift’s “Eras” tour movie has now made a whopping $250 million worldwide.
You can’t help but compare the two when Bey and Tay are both superstar pop icons who released concert films in a short time frame. Though these numbers certainly speak for themselves.
Needless to say, they undoubtedly support each other, and have each been present at one another’s big events respectively– Bey in L.A. for Tay and Tay in London for Bey.
But, in any case, they’ve both attended each other’s events with no bad blood apparent. However, it should be noted that their passionate fan bases can sometimes get a little competitive.
What’s more, the real winner here is AMC Theatres– which exclusively distributed both movies and is reaping the rewards of their success. They’ve handled the release without an outside studio partner and have so far seen significant gains.
Who would have thought … Beyoncé and Taylor Swift took the big stage and the cinema this year. A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one!
