Exciting News: November 29th, 2023
Both Félix Bautista and Devin Williams may have had disappointing ends to their season, but they were both recognized as the top closers in the game with the Reliever of the Year Award in their respective leagues.
Bautista, who had an incredible season for the Orioles before his injury, was awarded the Mariano Rivera American League Reliever of the Year Award. Meanwhile, Williams, whose Brewers were eliminated from the playoffs, claimed his second Trevor Hoffman NL Reliever of the Year Award.
Bautista played a major role in the Orioles winning their first AL East title since 2014. He had his first All-Star selection and finished the season with a 1.48 ERA, 33 saves, and 110 strikeouts over 61 innings.
His season was cut short by injury, but his impact on the team was undeniable. Even though he was unable to pitch, he played a huge part in the Orioles’ success.
Williams had an outstanding ’23 campaign, finishing with a 1.53 ERA and 36 saves while striking out 87 batters over 58 2/3 innings in 61 games.
The two closers, while very different in their styles, were both recognized for their remarkable performances on the mound.
