It’s time for New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick to make a tough decision with the team’s starting quarterback amid the struggles of Mac Jones. The franchise may pivot to either Bailey Zappe or Malik Cunningham, but a decision has not been made public just yet. Jones’ 2023 season has been rocky, leading many to question his position.

After a difficult stretch, Zappe and Cunningham have split practice reps as all eyes are locked on the potential change. ESPN’s Mike Reiss reports that Jones and practice squad quarterback Will Grier have not taken any throws in practice recently. The effect of this will be revealed as Sunday’s game against Los Angeles Chargers approaches.

With Sunday’s lineup still up in the air, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Zappe was named the starter. As one of the possible replacements, he’ll be closely watched as he vies for the starting role. If the Patriots decide to make a big change at quarterback for Sunday’s matchup against the Chargers, Zappe could be the man leading the team as they take on this new challenge.
