AP.Bren’s victory in 2023 shuts down any doubt that Indonesia might have ended the Philippine dominance in the professional MLBB esports scene after Onic Esports won the MSC championship in June.
Rowgien “Owgwen” Unigo, a member of AP.Bren, expressed that ‘Pinas lang malakas’ is a cheer that celebrates all the achievements the Philippines has made in the professional MLBB scene over the years.
“I think when it comes to the Philippines, I think that’s the main cheer for us because we won a lot of major international tournaments. So, it means a lot to us.”
AP.Bren’s victory against Onic Esports in the grand finals of M5 is a testament to their strength and determination. The Filipinos delivered an epic showdown, claiming victory in games one, three, four, and seven. The series lasted almost five hours, but it was a well-deserved win for the Philippines.
Aside from AP.Bren’s feat of becoming the first two-time M-Series champions, the team is also the first to win the title as a host country, breaking the curse and bagging the world title in front of their home crowd.
Looking ahead, AP.Bren head coach Francis “Duckeyyy” Glindro shared the team’s goal of winning the MSC Championship.
“I have my eyes on MSC for sure. I don’t have an MSC title just yet. That’s pretty ironic, I just said earlier that titles don’t really matter but I want my boys to get it all. Those are like gym badges in Pokemon.”
