Get ready for a big change on Prime Video! Amazon will be introducing ads to its Prime Video streaming service in January. The company aims to continue investing in compelling content while increasing that investment over time.
Don’t worry, though – Amazon promises that there will be “meaningfully fewer ads than linear TV and other streaming TV providers.” And if you prefer an ad-free option, you can pay an additional $2.99 per month for that luxury.
It’s important to note that ads will not appear in content that is purchased or rented, so you can still enjoy your favorite movies and TV shows interruption-free.
Prime Video originals like The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, The Boys, Jack Ryan, Citadel, The Wheel of Time, Reacher, and The Summer I Turned Pretty will continue to be available. Plus, the service teased its 2024 slate this month, which will include Fallout, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, and The Boys Season 4.
With other streaming services like Hulu, Netflix, and Disney+ already offering ad tiers, it seems like Amazon is joining the trend. Apple TV+ remains the only major streaming service to stick to a purely subscription model.
