AFD’s Exciting New Partnership: Transforming Water Routes and Bus Corridors with Up to 75 Electric Vessels

Agence Française de Developpement (AFD) has joined forces with LASWA to create 15 new water paths and acquire 75 electric vessels. But that’s not all – AFD is also funding LAMATA’s initiatives, including Quality Bus Corridors and interchanges at Marina and Mile 2.

Recently, Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) and Ochenuel Mobility wrapped up their two-day Sustainable Urban Mobility Course (SUMCOURSE), emphasizing non-motorized transportation and green wave transportation passages.

The course brought together participants from across the continent for lively discussions and innovative approaches to prioritize walking and cycling as the preferred modes of city movement.

Simulated conversations during the course shed light on the impact of traffic management strategies on traffic flow, air quality, and public health, showing that prioritizing non-motorized transportation users can significantly reduce congestion and improve air quality.

David Margonztern, a Senior Transport Specialist at Agence Française de Developpement (AFD), highlighted the organization’s investments in trains, the Lagos Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, and water transport during a presentation on the company’s transport and urban mobility projects in Nigeria.

In addition to partnering with LASWA for the “Omi Eko” project, AFD is currently working on establishing 15 water routes and acquiring 75 electric vessels. They are also funding LAMATA’s projects, including Quality Bus Corridors and interchanges at Marina and Mile 2.
