Instagram has just launched an exciting new feature called Backdrop. This AI-powered tool allows users to edit the backgrounds of their Instagram Stories. Although it’s only available in the U.S., you can use prompts to create different backgrounds on your Instagram stories. Just think of it like the AI-powered photo tools you’re already familiar with, such as Midjourney. Ahmad Al-Dahle, who leads AI at Instagram, revealed that users can search for something like “chased by dinosaurs” or “surrounded by puppies” and their photo will show them being chased by dinosaurs or surrounded by puppies. It works pretty well and it’s a lot of fun!

Step 1: Take your photo
To use the feature, begin by taking a photo. Make sure the subject matter doesn’t take up the whole screen, you’ll need some space for the AI to work with.

Step 2: Get AI involved
Click the AI button on the top of the screen, it’s the first option in the list of five. AI will then load and outline the subject of your photo before making sure you’re happy with it.

Step 3: Type in what you’d like to add
Choose your background, in this case, “in the Wild West”, and Instagram’s AI will work its magic.

Step 4: Choose your fighter
Choose your favorite backdrop, add it to your story and get your followers in on the fun with the generated prompt.
