The Standout Star of Championship Week: Alabama’s Jalen Milroe in College Football Games and Picks

Jalen Milroe was actually benched, but now they’re talking about it openly at Alabama, referring to the close call in Week 3 against South Florida.

The Crimson Tide’s now-star quarterback had thrown 2 interceptions the previous week in a loss to Texas and looked bad doing it. The 34-24 defeat was Alabama’s worst in a non-conference home game in 19 years. Nick Saban then told Milroe he was going to give backups Ty Simpson and Ty Buchner a shot the next week against the Bulls.

Nevemind the set were borderline dreadful in an ugly 17-3 win. It was more about how Milroe handled the news of being benched.

Blame had cascaded on top of the 20-year-old from Katy, Texas. He did something that not a lot of 20-year-olds do. He picked his head up and rebounded with a sense of maturity.

“I never ever questioned J-Mil even after the Texas game that we lost,” Alabama linebacker Deontae Lawson stated today. “I type of consulted with J-Mil alone. I informed him I think in him. I keep having faith [that] he will be the guy.”

At that point, the (Alabama) world was waiting to see what would take place next. A kid who had actually thrown 103 passes in 14 career games was at a crossroads because the program was at a crossroads.

There held true of how the quarterback space got so unskilled after the loss of total No. 1 draft option Bryce Young. There was the unstable structure of a dynasty already playing in the shadow of Georgia. Now, whatever occurs this Championship Week, Milroe goes into as the main figure. There is a lot at stake orbiting around him he may also be his own world.

“Biggest thing? We’re not an ended up item,” Milroe stated. “That’s a frightening thing.”

How he has gotten to that celestial level has turned into one of the very best stories of the season. Since that Texas game, Milroe has thrown for 16 goals with just 4 interceptions. The Tide have not lost since period, winning 10 in a row. Milroe’s ability to slide, squirm and run has affected even Kirby Smart’s kids.

“This guy resembles when I utilized to ask my boys who they were having fun with on the ‘Madden’ video game. And they would state, ‘I’m having fun with the Ravens.’ And I would state, ‘Why are you having fun with the Ravens?’ And they would state, ‘They’ve got Lamar Jackson and no one can tackle him.’ Well, this guy is a larger, physical variation of that,” Georgia’s coach stated.

In the same season, Milroe has gone from being benched to being compared to a former NFL MVP. Beat Georgia, and don’t be surprised if he gets an invitation to New York for the Heisman Trophy event.

What the heck happened to cause this transformation? Good, old-fashioned training and development– for starters.
