GCL Group has secured an investment agreement with the government of Suzhou, Jiangsu province, to establish a 2 GW perovskite solar module factory. This groundbreaking project will be rolled out in multiple phases, although a specific timeline has not yet been provided. Notably, the company had previously announced in November that its 1 m x 2 m perovskite single-junction module had attained an efficiency of 18.04%, as certified by the China National Institute of Metrology. This significant achievement represents a substantial improvement from the 16.02% efficiency initially unveiled in March.

Meanwhile, Leascend, a Shenzhen-listed solar manufacturer, has embarked on the construction of a 12 GW heterojunction (HJT) cell production facility in Nantong, Jiangsu province. With a massive investment of CNY 7 billion ($988.6 billion), the expansive facility will cover an area of 420,000 square meters. The company anticipates that the first 3 GW of capacity will be up and running by September 2024.
