The Golden State Warriors are having an eventful season, and there’s a new power player in town.
Entering Thursday with a 10-13 record, the Warriors shook things up with their starting lineup for their game against the Los Angeles Clippers, sending rookie Brandin Podziemski and Jonathan Kuminga to the forefront. A major move, to be sure, but one that could pay off big.
Podziemski, a standout in the 2023 NBA Draft, has been making waves for the Warriors this season. The 19th overall pick out of nearby Santa Clara has become a force to be reckoned with, leading the team in 3-point percentage at 44.2% and steadily increasing his impact since the start of the season.
Meanwhile, veteran Andrew Wiggins has been underperforming, hitting career lows in multiple statistical categories and missing games due to injury. Wiggins, who played a key role in the Warriors’ 2022 NBA championship, is currently playing on a four-year, $109 million contract. At 28 years old, the pressure is on for him to deliver, especially as the team’s core players enter their 30s.
Despite the line-up changes, the Warriors were unable to secure a win against the Clippers, ultimately falling short with a score of 121-113.
Underwhelming performances abounded, with Podziemski struggling and Wiggins unable to turn the tide. The Warriors, it seems, have some tough decisions ahead as they navigate the season.
